A smooth and tangy cream cheese frosting perfect for topping carrot cake, made with cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.

Ingredients

Scale

8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter together using an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed until fully incorporated after each addition.
Add the vanilla extract and salt to the mixture and beat on medium speed until the frosting is smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to ensure all ingredients are evenly mixed.
Use immediately to frost carrot cake or cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Before using refrigerated frosting, allow it to come to room temperature and stir gently to restore spreadable consistency.
