Juicy and saucy ground beef simmered in a tangy tomato-based sloppy joe sauce, piled high on toasted, buttery Texas toast bread for a rustic and hearty open-faced sandwich.
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp yellow mustard
4 slices Texas toast bread
2 tbsp butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic; sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart, until browned and no longer pink.
Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and yellow mustard.
Reduce heat to low and simmer the mixture, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes until thick and saucy.
Meanwhile, melt remaining 1 tablespoon butter in a separate pan over medium heat.
Toast Texas toast slices in the butter until golden and crisp on both sides.
Serve the sloppy joe mixture open-faced on the toasted Texas toast slices, plating them on a rectangular white plate.
