Eternal Sugar Cookie

Stack of soft and chewy sugar cookies with golden edges and pale centers on a white ceramic plate, dusted with powdered sugar on a rustic wooden surface

Classic sugar cookies with a soft, chewy center and slightly crisp edges, flavored with vanilla and almond extract.

Ingredients

Scale

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown and centers are set but still soft.
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, stack cookies on a white ceramic plate and lightly dust with powdered sugar for serving.
